"A Hundred Thousand Candles"
The first real snowfall this winter reflects the street lights like the unwavering flame of a hundred thousand candles, casting an orange glow on the world. It is late, and still, and quiet save for the steady wail of a distant wind. A cigarette hangs from my lips and I inhale; I am still, and quiet, save for the steady thoughts of a distant life. I exhale.
It is two winters ago. I am with a friend, and we take steady drags amongst dancing snowflakes. I take his problems upon myself and offer my sympathies. We bond over the process amidst the orange glow. I exhale.
It is one winter ago. I am with a woman, and we take steady drags amongst dancing snowflakes. I am in love, and wish the moment could be frozen like the world around us. We laugh, and our happiness hangs in the cold air. I exhale.
It is the first snowfall of this winter. I am alone, and I take steady drags amongst dancing snowflakes. The friend is gone, and the woman with him. Time has healed those wounds, so I shed no tears as I stand here reflecting, like the unwavering flame of a hundred thousand candles. I exhale.

"A Song for a Woman"/"Mirror Mirror"
The following are song lyrics.
"A Song for a Woman"
Bright winter days and cold winter nights and
You're here to stay so I'll be alright, with
Warm soothing thoughts for world-weary minds
And forget-me-nots, the very best kinds
From you
Cold winter blues I keep them away with
Thoughts about you when my mind starts to stray, and
I'll be just fine if you're still at home 'cause
Knowing you're there means I'm never alone
It's true
This is a song I wrote for a woman
Who steels my heart when the winds start to blow
And these pretty words I wrote for a woman
Who keeps me warm in ways I've never known
Dark winter skies with bright winter stars and
I'm satisfied with how these things are cause
You're by my side and it gets me through these
Cold winter nights I'd have without you
'out you
This is a song I wrote for a woman
Who steels my heart when the winds start to blow
And these pretty words I wrote for a woman
Who keeps me warm in ways I've never known
"Mirror Mirror"
Put it out of sight, put it out of mind
Ball it up real tight, keep it deep inside
No one likes you when you're in moods like these
Put your game face on, you got folks to please
You can always dwell on it later
When you're alone
Mirror, mirror
When you're alone
Mirror, mirror
Mirror mirror, tell me nothing
All I need's that look on your face
Mirror mirror, you're the one thing
That can always put me in my place
Put it out of sight, put it out of view
Maybe then you might convince them to like you
No one likes you when you're not on your game
Lock it up inside, start to entertain
You can always dwell on it later
When you're alone
Mirror, mirror
When you're alone
Mirror, mirror
Mirror mirror, tell me nothing
All I need's that look on your face
Mirror mirror, you're the one thing
That can always put me in my place
Put it out in front, put it out to bare
Let it out for once, you're alone in there
All that hate you feel for the things you see
When you look at you, when you look at me
We can dwell on it together
When we're alone
Mirror, mirror
When we're alone
Mirror, mirror
Mirror mirror, tell me nothing
All I need's that look on your face
Mirror mirror, you're the one thing
That can always put me in my place
Mirror, mirror
Mirror, mirror

"The First Night"/"Stranger Tides"
"The First Night"
From 'cross the room our gazes meet - I set upon the task
Of weaving tapestries of tales to keep you for awhile
An open book of of answers to the questions you may ask
In hopes the efforts made of me shall draw from you a smile
And though the night is early the hope cannot be contained
If successful in just one of my many dif'rent tries
For a moment I can keep you here, keep you entertained
And in that fleeting moment lose myself inside your eyes
The greatest hope I have is when you leave my company
You prefer when we're together to when I am away
Clinging to what you have of me, a cherished memory
A hope that we shall meet again, shall speak again some day
And though some men seek forever for riches they shant find
I'm richer every moment that I play upon your mind
"Stranger Tides"
"No man is an island" they say
But I can look from shore to shore
And see naught but empty waters
Stretching to distant horizons
That I know I can never reach
I cry out to the star-lit sky
And drain my sadness on the sand
My only solace being that
With no one here to comfort me
So too can no one see my tears
The waves lap at the golden beach
I sink into the darkened sea
In hopes I shall find something there
"No man is an island" they say
And I am an island no more
From 'cross the room our gazes meet - I set upon the task
Of weaving tapestries of tales to keep you for awhile
An open book of of answers to the questions you may ask
In hopes the efforts made of me shall draw from you a smile
And though the night is early the hope cannot be contained
If successful in just one of my many dif'rent tries
For a moment I can keep you here, keep you entertained
And in that fleeting moment lose myself inside your eyes
